Early 1900's Flared Lingerie Dress 7-223

This flattering graceful light weight full length dress was also known as a lawn dress or tea dress. The dress is made of fine white cotton batiste with 1/4" wide raised dots similar to very large dotted swiss. In addition there are four different types eyelet and insertion. A double cotton net section is between the 2" wide eyelet neck facing and the 1 3/4" wide eyelet collar. Fullness below the high shallow V neckline is controlled by narrow tucks which graduate from 1 1/8" to 4" long. The bodice has a pigeon front with full gathers above the 1 3/4" eyelet set in waistband. Elbow length sleeves have a 2 1/2" wide turned up cuff.
Skirt fullness is controlled by narrow 6" and 7" long tucks. There are slight gathers and the side fronts and mid back. The skirt has 9 tapered panels separated by 3/4" wide machine woven insertion in machine woven insertion. The two side panels and 2 back panel are cut on the bias. The bottom of each panel has a rounded section of 1/2" insertion with an oval loop at each joining of the panel and the flounce. A 14" wide eyelet flared flounce at the bottom of the skirt has pointed scallops at the bottom. The back closes to the waist with 6 1/4" incised edge pearl buttons. The inset waist and the 11" placket below it fasten with hooks and eyes. The embroidery and eyelet on the neck facing, the inset waist, the cuffs and the flounce appear to be hand done white work.
