1950's Ceil Chapman Dress 8-212
What a find! This Ceil Chapman dress of heavy black rayon satin has the fitted bodice, pretty décolletage, and ballet length full skirt look of Dior in the late 1940's. We believe this dress is from the early 1950's.
Ceil Chapman designed clothing for Marilyn Monroe and Deborah Kerr among other celebrities and movie stars. It looks wonderful on; we didn't have a dress form small enough to show it properly in the images. The sleeveless dress has a shallow front and back V neckline with a double pointed collar. The bodice is fitted with darts. The full gathered skirt has two horizontal 2 1/4" wide tucks, which 2" below the waist seam. A 3" band of artificial horsehair is behind the tucks on the inside of the skirt to emphasize the skirt’s fullness. Label: Ceil Chapman.
