1910's Unique Black Silk Day Dress with Flying Side Panels 9-205

This engaging mid 1910's black silk charmeuse day dress has light turquoise accents. A pale ecru silk sateen under bodice, to which short sleeves are attached, is gathered onto an inner petersham belt. The skirt is also gathered to this inner band. The sleeveless bodice has one hook and eye at the top then is open to the waist. Down each side front of the bodice is a 2 1/2" wide decorative horizontal ribbon band over turquoise. Attached to the under bodice is a panel of black wool matelasse which fastens at one side with snaps. The low round neck and open front are bound with turquoise colored silk; a matching grosgrain ribbon edges the sleeves. There is a placket on the side skirt; hooks and eyes and snaps connect the skirt and bodice over the inner belt. An attached cummerbund type belt with a turquoise top edging and corded trim at the end snaps at the side waist. The skirt design is unique. 6" wide panels with four 2" wide tucks attached at the waist loop down almost to the hem from the each side front and sideback over the gathered skirt. These loose flying panels (loops) create a pannier effect.
