1940's Boy’s Military Overcoat C-024

This khaki colored wool serge overcoat was undoubtedly cut down from an adult’s uniform. It is beautifully tailored. For example, the sleeves are in two parts for better fit and there is a stitched down to the waist pleat on the mid back. Eight half round brass colored 3/4" buttons close the double breasted front. There is a narrow red braid on the 3" wide collar, on each sleeve and on the rounded pocket flaps. There is a half belt with 2 buttons on the back. The rayon lining is of rich colored mahogany brown. The body of the coat is partially interlined with chamois leather giving the coat substantial weight. This coat was likely made in the late 40’s or early 50’s when wartime directions for cutting down and remaking adult garments for children were still available.
